Bentham News has been the monthly community publication for the small town of Bentham in North Yorkshire since 1982. More than 2000 copies are delivered free by volunteers to every household in Bentham and to central points in local towns and villages. It is also available by subscription across the world, and is recorded onto CD for people who have difficulty with the written word.
Bentham News is run by an editorial committee of volunteers, supported by a part-time paid co-ordinator, and is funded by local advertising and donations. It comes out at the beginning of the month and there are many articles in each edition that are written by local people covering topics such as walking, gardening, charity events, sports, council activities and local topical events. There is an open-access letters page, a people’s page for small ads and thanks, and the central pages contain a brief diary of events in the town for the coming month.
As well as the editorial committee, many members of the community enable the paper to continue, with their voluntary work delivering, sorting, and writing for the paper.
We welcome new contributions and articles and they should be submitted by the 12th of the month to the co-ordinator, Denise Henshaw. Please contact Denise if you require any further information, would like to get in touch, or could help in any way.
