The Lord of Bowland’s Tenth Annual Lecture
This year’s lecture – Maps, Mines and Minerals: 25,000 years of Bowland history – will be delivered by Dr Nick Riley MBE, C. Geol. online on Tuesday 5th October starting at 7pm.
A history of the Forest of Bowland, from the melting of the last ice sheet through to the present day, demonstrating the interaction between people, landscape & geology across 25 millennia.
Born in Blackburn, Dr Riley holds a PhD in Geology from Bristol University and spent a long career with the British Geological Survey. In 2003, he was awarded an MBE “for services to UK geoscience”. Nick’s lecture will explain how geology has shaped life in Bowland over thousands of years.
The event is open to everyone (under 18s must be accompanied) and is free to attend but, this year in particular, donations to Slaidburn Archive and Champion Bowland will be gratefully received.
